Collection: Emergency Food Supplies
More Prepared emergency food supplies provide ready-to-store nutrition for situations where normal food access is disrupted during an emergency. Used by schools, workplaces, warehouses, healthcare facilities, government agencies, and individual households, these products support occupants during extended emergencies, shelter-in-place events, lockdowns, and disaster situations where leaving the building is unsafe or regular food service is interrupted.
Our emergency food range includes US Coast Guard approved emergency food bars from SOS, Mayday, Datrex, Mainstay, and New Millennium, MRE (Meal Ready to Eat) complete meals from MRE Star and AmeriQual, and freeze-dried meals from Mountain House and ReadyWise. Products are selected for extended shelf life, compact storage, and minimal preparation requirements — allowing facilities to maintain food readiness for years without frequent rotation.

Choosing Emergency Food for Your Program
The appropriate emergency food depends on how many people must be supported, the planned duration, available storage space, water access, preparation limitations, dietary requirements, and the way supplies will be distributed during an emergency.
Emergency Food Bars
Emergency food bars provide compact, ready-to-eat calories without requiring water, heating, cooking, or utensils. They work well for emergency kits, classrooms, offices, vehicles, evacuation supplies, and programs that require simple distribution and compact storage.
MRE Meals
Meals Ready to Eat provide a more complete meal format and can generally be eaten without conventional cooking. Packaging, included components, heating options, dietary configurations, and shelf life vary by product, so review each product description carefully.
Freeze-Dried Meals
Freeze-dried food offers extended shelf life and a wider selection of meals, entrees, and long-term food packages. Most freeze-dried products require water for preparation, making them most appropriate when the emergency plan also includes an adequate drinking and preparation-water supply.
Planning Quantities and Storage
Calculate quantities using the maximum number of people expected at the location, the intended number of days, and the serving or calorie information shown on each product. Consider employees, students, visitors, contractors, alternate shifts, and anyone else who may be present during an emergency.
Store emergency food indoors in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, moisture, pests, and cleaning chemicals. Inspect supplies regularly and follow each manufacturer’s stated shelf life and storage instructions.
Organizations seeking pre-calculated food and water quantities can also shop our 72-Hour Emergency Ration Kits.
Organization and Institutional Purchasing
Emergency food is available in individual units, cases, kits, and larger institutional quantities. More Prepared supports schools, workplaces, healthcare facilities, government agencies, public safety organizations, and multi-site programs.
Purchase orders, tax-exempt purchasing, volume pricing, contract purchasing, pallet quantities, vendor documentation, and coordinated multi-location delivery are available for qualifying organizations.

Emergency Food FAQ
Which emergency food format is best?
Food bars are useful when compact storage and immediate distribution are priorities. MREs provide a more complete ready-to-eat meal format. Freeze-dried meals offer longer-term storage and greater variety but generally require water. Many organizational programs use more than one format.
Does emergency food require water or cooking?
Emergency food bars require no water or preparation. MRE requirements vary by product and can generally be eaten without conventional cooking. Most freeze-dried meals require water for rehydration. Always review the individual product instructions.
How much emergency food should an organization store?
Base quantities on total occupancy, planned duration, serving information, dietary needs, and your organization’s emergency procedures. Do not assume that every product provides a complete day of nutrition without reviewing its calorie and serving information.
How long does emergency food last?
Shelf life varies considerably by product, packaging, and storage conditions. Use the shelf-life information shown on each product page and inspect inventory regularly. Excessive heat can significantly shorten the usable life of some emergency foods.
Can dietary requirements be accommodated?
Some products are available in vegetarian, halal, kosher, gluten-sensitive, or other configurations. Availability and certifications vary, so verify current product labels and specifications before purchasing for a dietary program.
Is bulk purchasing available?
Yes. Many products are available by the case, pallet, or as part of a custom institutional package. Contact More Prepared for volume pricing, purchasing documentation, and help calculating quantities.
