Overview & Best Uses
Overview & Best Uses
The Hammerhead™ Aluminum Stop-Log Flood Barrier is a custom-configured flood protection system designed to protect doorways, garages, loading docks, passageways, window wells, and other vulnerable building openings.
The system uses lightweight, stackable aluminum planks that slide into support posts installed on either side of the protected opening. EPDM seals along the planks and inside the posts help create a dependable barrier against rising water. Once the planks are inserted, they are compressed and secured with a top locking assembly for added resistance to water pressure, wind, and floating debris.
Hammerhead systems are fabricated to match the width and required protection height of each project. Multiple planks can be stacked to provide flood protection up to 6 feet, while center posts and 90-degree sections may be incorporated for wider spans, turns, and perimeter configurations.
The support posts are typically installed permanently so the aluminum planks can be deployed quickly when flooding is expected. When the system is not in use, the planks can be removed, stacked, and stored compactly while the protected opening remains accessible.
Durable aluminum construction, corrosion-resistant hardware, reusable components, and project-specific sizing make Hammerhead a strong choice for residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and critical-infrastructure applications.

Setup & Installation
Setup & Installation
Hammerhead requires an initial site-specific installation before it can be deployed for flood protection.
Support posts are secured to flat, structurally sound surfaces on each side of the protected opening. Depending on the doorway, wall construction, threshold, hinges, and available clearance, the posts may be mounted inside or outside the opening. Wider spans may require center posts or additional structural support.
The bottom sealing surface should be smooth, level, and durable. Uneven surfaces may need to be repaired or leveled. Installations over pavers, gravel, soil, or other unstable surfaces may require a concrete footer extending across the full barrier width.
To deploy the barrier before a flood:
- Inspect the posts, mounting hardware, planks, and seals.
- Clean the threshold and sealing surfaces.
- Slide the aluminum planks into the installed support posts.
- Stack the required number of planks for the desired protection height.
- Tighten the planks and secure the upper locking plate using the supplied tool.
- Confirm that the bottom and side seals are properly compressed.
After use, rinse away dirt and debris without damaging the seals. Allow all components to dry completely before stacking and storing the planks.
Professional review or installation may be recommended depending on the barrier height, opening width, wall construction, substrate, hydrostatic loads, and local requirements.
FAQ
FAQ
Is Hammerhead sold in standard sizes?
No. Hammerhead is configured for the width, protection height, mounting conditions, and structural requirements of the project. A quote is required.
How high can the Hammerhead system protect?
Hammerhead can be configured for flood protection up to 6 feet high. The appropriate height and structural configuration depend on the opening width and project conditions.
How does the barrier work?
Aluminum planks slide into support posts mounted on each side of the opening. The planks stack to the required height and are tightened against EPDM seals before the top locking assembly is secured.
Do the support posts remain installed?
The side posts are typically installed permanently to maintain a dependable seal and allow rapid deployment. Removable center-post configurations may be available for certain projects.
Can Hammerhead span a wide opening?
Yes. Center posts can extend the system across wider openings. Plank length, barrier height, water load, and site conditions determine whether center posts or additional supports are required.
Can the system turn a corner?
Yes. Custom 90-degree sections can be used for turns and certain perimeter configurations.
What type of surface is required?
The bottom sealing surface should be smooth, level, stable, and durable. Concrete is generally preferred. Pavers, gravel, soil, and uneven surfaces may require preparation or installation of a concrete footer.
Can the posts be installed inside the opening?
Posts may be mounted inside or outside the opening depending on wall construction, threshold conditions, door operation, hardware clearance, and available space. Inside mounting reduces the usable opening width.
How quickly can the barrier be deployed?
After the posts have been installed, the aluminum planks can generally be inserted and secured within minutes. Actual deployment time depends on the barrier size, number of planks, accessibility, and personnel.
What maintenance is required?
Inspect the posts, planks, mounting hardware, and seals at least twice per year and before expected flood events. After exposure, rinse away debris, protect the seals from damage, and dry the components completely before storage.
What information is needed for a quote?
Provide the approximate opening width, desired protection height, project location, mounting surface, number of openings, installation needs, and target date. Photos and more exact measurements may be requested after the initial review.
Custom Flood Protection for Your Opening
Every Hammerhead™ system is configured around the dimensions and conditions of the installation. The required width, protection height, mounting surface, wall construction, threshold condition, turns, and need for center posts all affect the final system design and price.
To request a quote, provide the approximate width of each opening, desired protection height, installation surface, project location, and target completion date. Photos of the opening and surrounding surfaces are also helpful and may be requested after your initial submission.
More Prepared can help determine whether Hammerhead is the appropriate solution or whether another flood barrier system would better fit your property, deployment requirements, and expected flood conditions.
