The NAR Combat Application Tourniquet (CAT) – Trainer Blue is a dedicated training version of the world-renowned Combat Application Tourniquet®, designed to develop proficiency in life-saving hemorrhage control techniques. Recognized as the official tourniquet of the U.S. Army, the CAT® is widely regarded as one of the fastest, safest, and most effective prehospital field tourniquets available.

Engineered to replicate the form and function of the operational device, the Trainer Blue version allows EMS personnel, military operators, law enforcement, and medical trainees to practice proper application without using a live-duty tourniquet. This ensures skill development, muscle memory, and procedural confidence in high-pressure environments.

The CAT® design has been proven 100% effective in occluding blood flow in both upper and lower extremities, as validated by the U.S. Army’s Institute of Surgical Research. Its Gen 7 configuration features a durable windlass system and patented free-moving internal band, delivering true circumferential pressure to the limb for rapid hemorrhage control.

Key design improvements include a single routing buckle for faster application, reduced blood loss, fewer windlass turns, and simplified training protocols. Once properly tightened, the windlass locks securely in place and is stabilized with a hook-and-loop retention strap to maintain consistent pressure during evacuation.

The trainer version incorporates the same structural elements as the operational CAT®, including a reinforced windlass, stabilization plate, windlass clip, and writeable windlass security strap. It also features NAR’s signature Red Tip Technology® elliptical tab, providing clear visual guidance during application training.
