Overview & Best Uses
Overview & Best Uses
The YellowFIN™ Flood Panel Barrier System is a custom-fabricated, direct-mount flood barrier designed for doorways, windows, garages, loading areas, wall openings, equipment enclosures, and other locations where strong protection and a clean architectural appearance are both important.
Unlike conventional stop-log systems, YellowFIN does not require permanently mounted vertical posts. Stainless-steel receiver anchors are installed directly into the surrounding wall, sill, and floor. When flood protection is needed, the composite panels are positioned over the opening and secured with turn-bolt fasteners. When the panels are removed, only the recessed receiver points remain visible and optional decorative caps can further minimize their appearance.
Each panel uses a fiberglass-reinforced, multi-layer composite construction with a structural honeycomb core and rigid 6063 T-6 anodized aluminum framing. Compression seals along the back, bottom, and adjoining panel edges are tightened against the structure to help create a continuous seal around the opening.
YellowFIN panels are custom fabricated for the protected opening and required flood height. Standard configurations use 36-inch and 48-inch panels, while stackable horizontal sections and narrower vertical panels can provide taller protection configurations up to 96 inches.
Longer spans may use multiple connected panels, latch-lock connections, support legs, spacers, corner extrusions, and other project-specific components. Panels store flat and can generally be handled by one or two people, depending on their size and weight.

Setup & Installation
Setup & Installation
YellowFIN requires an initial site-specific installation of receiver anchors in the surrounding walls and floor or sill. The structure and mounting surfaces must be suitable for the anticipated flood loads.
During initial installation:
- Position the custom panel over the opening with the required overlap on each side.
- Mark the pre-drilled wall-mount locations.
- Drill, clean, and install the specified wall receiver anchors.
- Reposition the panel and engage the wall turn bolts.
- Compress the panel downward to position the bottom seal.
- Mark, drill, clean, and install the floor or sill receiver anchors.
- Tighten the wall and floor fasteners in an alternating pattern until the seals are uniformly compressed.
- Install adjoining panels, connection latches, corner components, spacers, or support legs as specified.
For deployment before a flood:
- Inspect the panels, seals, anchors, turn bolts, connection hardware, and mounting surfaces.
- Clean the wall, sill, and floor areas that contact the seals.
- Position each panel according to the project-specific sequence.
- Insert the wall turn bolts into the receiver anchors.
- Install the floor or sill bolts.
- Connect adjoining sections and install support legs where required.
- Tighten fasteners gradually in an alternating sequence so the seals compress evenly.
- Confirm that every panel, connection, and seal is properly secured.
After use, rinse and clean the panels without damaging the seals. Allow all components to dry completely before stacking and storing them.
Because floodwater applies significant pressure to the barrier and the surrounding structure, the building, wall, sill, slab, and anchoring conditions should be reviewed for the intended protection height. Consultation with a qualified engineer may be required.
FAQ
FAQ
How is YellowFIN different from Hammerhead?
YellowFIN panels mount directly to receiver anchors in the wall and floor and do not require permanently visible vertical posts. Hammerhead uses stackable aluminum planks installed between support posts that typically remain attached to the opening.
Is YellowFIN custom made?
Yes. Panel dimensions, protection height, mounting points, seals, connections, supports, spacers, corners, and finishes are configured for the specific opening and site conditions.
What protection heights are available?
Standard YellowFIN configurations use 36-inch and 48-inch panels. Stacked horizontal panels or narrower vertical sections can provide taller configurations up to 96 inches, subject to project review.
How are the panels secured?
Wall turn bolts and floor or sill bolts engage permanently installed receiver anchors. Tightening the fasteners compresses the seals against the structure. Multiple panels may also use stainless-steel latch-lock connections.
What remains visible when the panels are removed?
The vertical posts used by many removable flood barriers are eliminated. Recessed receiver-anchor openings remain in the wall and floor, and optional decorative caps can reduce their visibility.
Can YellowFIN protect a wide opening?
Yes. A single custom panel may span certain openings, while larger spans can use multiple connected panels and support legs. Final design depends on width, height, panel weight, expected water load, structural conditions, and handling requirements.
Can the system fit around door handles or other obstructions?
Yes. Spacers, U-shaped configurations, box-shaped layouts, corners, and other custom components may be used to clear sills, handles, equipment, air-conditioning units, or architectural features.
Can YellowFIN turn a corner?
Yes. Ninety-degree corner extrusions can create L-shaped, U-shaped, or more complex protection layouts.
How many people are required for deployment?
Many panels can be managed by one or two people, but crew size depends on the panel dimensions, weight, protection height, number of sections, and site access.
What type of wall can support the system?
YellowFIN is generally installed into suitable masonry, concrete, or concrete masonry unit walls. The mounting structure must be capable of resisting the hydrostatic and hydrodynamic loads transferred by the barrier.
Does the building need engineering review?
Engineering review may be required, especially for taller protection heights, wider spans, high anticipated water loads, older structures, or unusual wall and slab construction. A flood barrier can only perform properly if the surrounding structure can withstand the applied loads.
How is YellowFIN stored?
The removable panels are stored flat and stacked in a clean, dry, protected location. Fasteners, support legs, and related hardware should be labeled and stored with the corresponding opening.
What information is needed for a quote?
Provide the opening width and height, desired protection height, wall and floor materials, number of openings, project location, obstructions, preferred appearance, installation needs, and target date. Photos and detailed measurements are also helpful.
Custom Flood Panels With Minimal Visible Hardware
Every YellowFIN™ system is fabricated for the opening, required protection height, mounting surfaces, structural conditions, obstructions, and preferred panel configuration.
YellowFIN is not priced solely by width or linear foot. The final system may include one or more custom panels, stacked sections, connection latches, support legs, spacers, corner extrusions, specialized seals, receiver anchors, decorative caps, and custom finishes.
To request a quote, provide the opening width and height, desired flood protection height, wall and floor construction, project location, number of openings, known obstructions, installation requirements, and target completion date. Photos, drawings, and precise measurements may be requested after the initial review.
More Prepared can help determine whether YellowFIN is the right choice or whether Hammerhead, Oyster, BlueFIN, or another flood-control system would better fit the project.
